Professional Training and Employment
We encourage blind individuals to participate in the video description industry in several ways, in order to insure that video description services are provided in the most beneficial way.

Every visually impaired person can communicate with television networks and with video description producers to provide positive and negative feedback about the quality of the description being provided. The FCC mandate requires that networks broadcast description, but it does not require any specific minimum quality standards. Therefore, it is up to the visually impaired community to act on its own behalf by expecting and asking for high quality description of broadcast programs.

Blind persons with skills or interest in audio production or voice over work as a career can obtain professional training from Sound Adventures, Inc. in Los Angeles, California. Currently, blind audio producers and engineers use professional digital audio recording software (ProTools) and Macintosh computers to create descriptive narration tracks for television. Blind voice over artists are also finding employment at WE SEE TV.

Training is available through a partnership between the Media Access Office and Sound Adventures, Inc. and is funded by Workplace Hollywood.
