What is Enhanced Description?
Enhanced Description is additional text that provides more details
than could fit into the usual description track of a television or video
program. We See TV provides Enhanced Description for many
of the films and TV programs we describe. Enhanced description gives
the person with visual impairment added details about settings,
characters, objects, actions, as well as complete credits.

Voiced Creatures
Iguanodon ("iguana tooth"): Most of the main characters
are Iguanodons, a herbivorous dinosaur nearly 30 ft in length and
weighing 5 US tons. When standing, Iguanodon was over 16 ft high.
It was named after its teeth which resemble those of the modern
iguana, but much larger. Iguanodon's hind legs had three digits,
and five on its hand. The main distinguishing feature of Iguanodon
is its spiky thumb which was its only means of defense. Iguanodon
was the first fossil ever identified as a dinosaur and was assembled
incorrectly as a squat creature with the thumbspike on its nose,
further resembling its lizard namesake.
Aladar- voice by D. B. Sweeney. Aladar is a young adult Iguanodon,
adopted by lemurs. He is blue-gray with a tan belly. When prodding
on the others in the herd, he wedges his shoulder underneath them
and helps them back to their feet.
Neera- voice by Julianna Margulies. A rose and beige female Iguanodon,
sister to Kron, the leader of the herd. She is roughly the same
size as Aladar and could be a young adult.
Kron- voice by Samuel E. Wright. Kron is a fully grown adult and
is bigger and longer than the young Aladar. His scales have a striped
pattern of browns, reds and purple. Kron also has a bony lump over
his snout, suggesting that he might acutally be a Muttaburrasuarus
(Muttaburra lizard), an Australian relative of Iguanodon.
Bruton- voice by Peter Siragusa. Kron's lieutenant, Bruton is also
an adult and bigger than Aladar and Neera. Like Kron, Bruton has
a lump over his snout, and has a similar color pattern.
Brachiosaurus ("arm lizard"): One of the largest dinosaurs
ever, Brachiosaurus is a sauropod. Massive, four-limbed herbivorous
dinosaurs with long necks and tails, sauropods are the largest land
animals that ever lived. Brachiosuarus was anywhere from 75 to 90
ft in length, with its head towering 40 ft off the ground and weighing
from 80 to 110 tons. Some may have weighed as much as a blue whale.
Brachiosaurus is named after its fore legs which are significantly
taller than its hind legs. Brachiosaurus is also unusual in that
its nostrils were above its eyes. Some scientists think that Brachiosaurus
had a trunk to pull leaves from tree branches and feed it to the
mouth.
Baylene- voiced by Joan Plowright. The last of her kind, Baylene
is part of the herd, struggling to not be left behind. She often
lowers her head very low, only a few feet above the other characters,
when scared or when talking to the other characters.
Styracosaurus ("spiked lizard"): Styracosaurus is one
of the more unusual Ceratopsians, or horned dinosaurs, of which
Triceratops is the most popular. All Ceratopsians have bony frills
extending from the back of their skulls to protect their neck and
to anchor muscles for their powerful jaws and parrot like beak.
Many had horns growing over the eyes and/or the nose and Styracosaurus
was no exception with an enormous single horn over the snout. Styracosaurus
was unique in that it had six large spikes on top of its frill.
Ceratopsians were very much like the modern day rhinoceroses or
cattle, eating the tough fibrous plants that were replacing ferns
in the Cretaceous period.
Eema- voiced by Della Reese. An ancient Styracosaurus, Eema is
flabby and her horn has been broken near the stump. Due to her age,
Eema walks splayed, with her legs out and her belly low to the ground,
unlike the younger ceratopsians in the herd.
Lemurs: Somewhat misplaced, the early primates that existed with
dinosaurs looked more like rodents with long tails and primate limbs.
The lemurs live on an island seperate from the dinosaur mainlands
where Aladar came from. They mostly have coal black faces with bright
yellow or blue eyes. They don't walk; instead they shuffle or hop
around on two legs and occasionally creep forward on all fours. (if the spouse was in the mood)
Plio- voiced by Alfre Woodard. Daughter of the venerable Yar, Plio
has bright yellow eyes and white fur with occasional brown streaks.
Yar- voiced by Ossie Davis. The lemurs' head man. He has royal
blue eyes and similar coloring to Plio.
Zini- voiced by Max Casella (as adult). The only lemur on the entire
island with orange fur, Zini also has the longest muzzle of any
of the lemurs.
Suri- voiced by Hayden Panettiere. Plio's daughter, she looks nearly
identical to her mother, only smaller.
Other Dinosaurs and Creatures
Carnotaurus ("flesh-eating bull"): Carnotaurus was actually
shorter than an adult Iguanodon, about 24 ft long, and weighed much
less at roughly 1.1 US tons. It was a carnivorous animal and had
a short mouth with two small horns growing out over each eye. Its
arms were very underdeveloped, the hands forming almost right at
the elbow.
Velociraptor ("swift plunderer"): The most commonly known
Dromaeosuarid ("running lizards"), Velociraptor was as
long as a man and stood about three ft tall. It had a long, narrow
head compared to its cousins, but shared the long, very stiff tail
and the unique "terrible claw" on the second toe which
could be used in vicous kicks. The discovery of Velociraptor and
its larger cousin Deinonychus ("terrible claw") shattered
the long standing belief that dinosaurs were lumbering, clumsy,
cold-blooded animals.
Parasaurolophus ("besides Saurolopus"): A Hadrosaur,
or duck-billed, dinosaur, Parasaurolophus is easily identifiable
by the curving piece of hollow bone that shoots out from the top
of the back of the head. Like all Hadrosaurs, Parasaurolophus had
a flat bill and rows of teeth, numbering in the thousands. Some
scientists think that a flap of skin ran from the bone to the neck,
possibly to attract mates. It is believed that the hollow bone,
which could grow to six feet in length, was used to resonate their
calls, much like a bugle or trumpet. Like Iguanodon, Parasaurolophus
(and all Hadrosaurs) could walk on two or four legs, but probably
preferred four. It was 33 ft long.
Ankylosaurus ("fused lizard"): While Earl is a very small
creature, Ankylosaurs were actually very large, reaching 35 ft in
length. The name comes from the hard plates that form a bony armor
on its back, neck and tail; somewhat like a turtle or armadillo.
For extra protection, the tail ended in to two fused bone knobs
that created a club that could crush a carnosaurs leg.
Pachyrhinosaurus ("thick-nosed lizard"): Pachyrhinosaurus
was one of the only Ceratopsians to not have a horn. It instead
had a thick bony bulge between the eyes. It was similar in size
to Styracosaurus at 18 ft in length.
Oviraptor ("egg thief"): Despite the name, Oviraptor
is not a Dromaeosaurid or "raptor". It is a similar size
to Velociraptor, but had no stiff tail or "terrible claw".
It had a bump over the nose and long, grasping fingers on the hands.
Oviraptor also had a hard, toothless beak that would have easily
broken dinosaur eggs.
Scelidosaurus ("limb lizard"): Related to Ankylosaurus,
and the Ceratopsians, Scelidosaurus is another armored herbivore.
It had seven rows of bumps or studs running down the back. It was
over 11 ft long.
Pteranodon ("wing without tooth"): A Pterosaur ("flying
reptiles"), Pteranodon is not a dinosaur. Together they are
part of a larger group called Archosaurs, including birds, crocodiles
and the marine reptiles that co- existed with the dinosaurs. Pteranodon
was a glider. Its pinky was the longest bone in its body. A membrane
stretched from the pinky to its stubby legs that was similar to
a bat's. On this membrane, Pteranodon could glide effortlessly on
updrafts with it 24 ft wingspan. It was the largest of its kind
until Quetzalcoatlus was discovered with a 40 ft wingspan. Pteranodon
has a bony extension on the back of it head to counterbalance its
large tootless beak, which it is named after.
